About

Department Chair: Prof. Oded Khaner
Department Secretary: Yehudit Pinchas

Introduction
Studies in the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences combine specialization in the fields of life and medical sciences. The courses provide students with theoretical background and high level professional skills in laboratory work particularly where biological and medical research is taking place. The faculty consists of academics from the fields of natural sciences and scientists from Hadassah Medical Center with advanced academic levels, skills and vast teaching experience.

The Medical Laboratory Sciences Department at Hadassah College has created a curriculum that educates professionals primarily to working in academic and medical research, in addition to providing students with strong laboratory knowledge. This is critical because, due to advancements in equipment, there is a decreased need for traditional lab professionals, and more of a need for highly trained academics with practical experience.

Students in the department acquire a broad base of knowledge and exceptional education with courses in biomedical subjects that include:
  • Molecular Genetics: genetics, biochemistry, biology of the cell, molecular biology, heredity
  • Microbiology: general and medical microbiology
  • Medicine: pathology, clinical biochemistry, hematology, physiology, parasitology, endocrinology, pharmacology
  • Biology: developmental biology, evolution, microscopy, neurobiology
  • Biotechnology: biotechnology, bioinformation
Students gain extensive practical experience in highly equipped multi-purpose ("smart") laboratories, which aid students in acquiring the necessary skills and laboratory methods used today. Students study advance methods in biochemistry, microbiology, virology, immunology, hematology, genetic engineering and molecular biology.

Among our faculty members are academics from various prestigious universities in the field of life sciences and scientists currently working in the field. Upon completion of the program, graduates may continue their studies in advanced degrees in their field as well as work in research laboratories in biology and medicine. Opportunities exist for graduates to work with well-known researchers and take part in new discoveries and development of new products, benefiting the future of mankind.

Study Objectives
Graduates will earn a recognized Bachelor Medical Laboratory Science (B.Med.Lab.Sc.) degree and will be able to pursue advanced degrees in the field or work in academia, diagnostic laboratories in hospitals, the biotechnology industry or pharmaceuticals.

Duration of Studies
This is a three year program with a three-month internship.

Admission Requirements
Applicants must submit scores from high school matriculation and psychometric examinations. In addition, applicants will be interviewed by the admission committee.
Detailed admission information is available in Hebrew
