About
HWZOA
Hadassah Women's Zionist Organization of America Hadassah is the largest volunteer Zionist organization in the world, with 300,000 members. The organization was incepted in 1912 by a group of 15 women, and was named "Hadassah". Henrietta Szold led the group through many of those founding years.
The organization's activities in Jerusalem, as well as nationwide, were initiated because of the difficult situation in the Jewish community during World War One; a group of doctors and nurses came here with equipment to upgrade the deteriorating medical services. These activities became an institution by the name of "Hadassah Medical Organization" in 1922, and over the years they branched out to other areas such as education and social involvement.
